Welch Software Solutions LLC provides the Clearplate mobile application, website, and related services, collectively referred to in this Privacy Policy as “Clearplate,” the “Service,” “we,” “us,” or “our.”
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information when you use Clearplate.
Clearplate helps users evaluate foods, ingredients, dishes, drinks, and restaurant menus based on their selected food allergens. Clearplate provides informational guidance only and does not guarantee that any food or dish is safe.
1. Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on how you use Clearplate.
Information You Provide
Account information
When you create an account, you provide your email address.
Your password is submitted through our authentication provider and is not separately stored by Clearplate in its application database.
Allergen selections
You may select and save food allergens in your profile. We use these selections to personalise the information and guidance presented through Clearplate.
Providing allergen selections is optional when creating an account. However, Clearplate cannot provide personalised allergen results unless you save at least one allergen.
Because allergen selections may reveal information about your health or dietary needs, they may be considered sensitive personal information under certain privacy laws.
Search queries
When you use Clearplate’s text-based features, you provide the name or description of a food, ingredient, dish, or drink that you would like Clearplate to analyse.
We may retain your searches and related results to:
provide recent search history;
generate and improve food insights;
avoid unnecessarily repeating the same analysis;
diagnose errors;
monitor performance; and
improve the Service.
Menu photographs
When you use the menu-scanning feature, you may submit photographs of restaurant menus.
We process submitted photographs to identify visible menu items, descriptions, menu sections, dietary statements, and other information needed to generate menu insights.
Menu photographs are not intended to be publicly displayed or shared with other Clearplate users.
You should avoid including people, payment information, or other unnecessary personal information in photographs submitted to Clearplate.
Support, feedback, and form submissions
When you contact us, report a problem, or submit feedback through the Clearplate website or another support channel, you may provide information such as:
your name;
email address;
the content of your request or feedback;
screenshots or attachments; and
any other information you choose to submit.

We use this information to operate Clearplate, understand how features are used, improve performance, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical problems.
Information Generated Through the Service
When Clearplate processes a search or menu photograph, it may generate information such as:
food or search classifications;
dish descriptions;
predicted or commonly associated ingredients;
ingredient matches;
possible allergen indicators;
result categories;
preparation warnings;
confidence labels;
explanations; and
other analysis results.
These results may be associated with your account, saved allergen selections, or recent activity where necessary to provide the Service.

We may receive information needed to provide and manage subscription access, including:
the subscription product;
purchase and transaction status;
whether a trial is active;
subscription renewal or expiration status;
entitlement status; and
purchase-restoration information.
Clearplate does not receive or store your full payment-card number. Payments are processed by Apple.
2. How We Use Information
We may use information to:
create and maintain your account;
authenticate users and protect account security;
save and update your allergen profile;
process food, dish, ingredient, drink, and menu requests;
personalise results using your saved allergen selections;

provide recent search history;
determine whether you have access to Clearplate+ features;
process, manage, and restore subscriptions;

analyse product usage and improve Clearplate’s features;
enforce our agreements and policies;
comply with legal obligations; and
protect the rights, safety, and property of Clearplate, our users, and others.
We may also use aggregated or deidentified information for analytics, research, product development, and other lawful purposes.
3. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Processing
Clearplate uses artificial intelligence and other automated systems to analyse searches and menu photographs.
Depending on the features you use, Clearplate may use automated systems to analyze food-related information, identify potential allergens or dietary concerns, compare information against our ingredient and recipe data, generate explanations or recommendations, and provide guidance to help you make more informed food decisions.
Search text, menu photographs, or menu-derived text may be processed by third-party artificial intelligence and data-processing providers that help us deliver these features.
Your saved allergen selections are used by Clearplate to personalise results. We do not intentionally include your saved allergen profile in prompts submitted to third-party artificial intelligence providers.
Artificial intelligence and automated analysis can be incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading. Clearplate’s results are informational and are not a guarantee that a food, ingredient, dish, or drink is safe.
You should always confirm ingredients, preparation methods, substitutions, and cross-contact risks directly with the restaurant, server, manufacturer, or food preparer.

We may disclose information to service providers that perform services on our behalf, including providers that support:

backend processing;
artificial intelligence and automated analysis;
search and data matching;
subscription and purchase management;
analytics and product improvement;

to protect the rights, safety, and property of Clearplate, our users, or others;

5. Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising
Clearplate does not sell personal information for monetary consideration.
Clearplate does not use personal information to provide third-party advertising within the Clearplate application.
Some privacy laws define “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” more broadly than their ordinary meanings. We will provide any legally required notices or choices if our practices become subject to those definitions.

provide and maintain the Service;
preserve account and transaction records;
maintain security;
prevent fraud and abuse;
comply with legal obligations;

Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and the reason it was collected.
For example:
recent search history may be limited to a set number of recent entries;
menu photographs and temporary menu-processing information are ordinarily retained only for a limited period needed to process the request;
account and profile information may be retained while your account remains active;
subscription records may be retained as needed to manage purchases and comply with legal or financial obligations;
analytics and diagnostic records may be retained according to our operational needs and the settings of the providers that process them; and

When you delete your account, we take steps to delete or disassociate information associated with the active account. Some information may remain temporarily in backups, security records, diagnostic logs, transaction records, or other systems where immediate deletion is not technically feasible or where retention is permitted or required by law.
7. Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your Clearplate account through the application.
For security, we may require you to verify your identity or re-enter your password before deletion is completed.
Account deletion is intended to remove information associated with your active Clearplate account, including:
your account profile;
saved allergen selections;
recent search history associated with your profile;
legal acknowledgement records associated with your profile;
certain service identifiers connected to your account; and
temporary menu photographs associated with your account where they remain available for deletion.
Certain information may not be deleted immediately or may be retained where reasonably necessary for:
security and fraud prevention;
legal compliance;
dispute resolution;
transaction and subscription records;
enforcing our agreements;
maintaining backups; or
completing deletion processes operated by our service providers.
Deleting your Clearplate account does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription. You must manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple subscription settings.
8. Privacy Rights and Requests
Depending on where you live and subject to applicable law, you may have the right to request:
access to personal information we maintain about you;
correction of inaccurate information;
deletion of personal information;
a portable copy of certain information;
information about the categories of information we collect, use, or disclose;
withdrawal of consent for certain processing;
restriction of or objection to certain processing;
an appeal of a decision concerning a privacy request; and
freedom from unlawful discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
To submit a privacy request, contact us at contact@clearplateapp.com.
We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. We may deny or limit a request where permitted by law, including when information must be retained for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, recordkeeping, or the establishment or defence of legal claims.

We do not use your allergen selections for third-party advertising.
We do not intentionally include your saved allergen profile in prompts submitted to third-party artificial intelligence providers.
You may update or remove saved allergen selections through your profile settings.
10. Security
We use administrative, organisational, and technical safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
These safeguards may include:
account authentication;
encrypted network communications;
access controls;
encryption provided by our hosting and storage providers;
ownership and authorisation checks;
security monitoring;
temporary storage controls; and
identity verification before sensitive account actions.
No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, lost, misused, or disclosed without authorisation.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and for notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised.
11. Camera Permission
Clearplate requests access to your device camera so that you can photograph restaurant menus.
Camera access is optional. You may use other available features without granting camera access, but you will not be able to capture menu photographs through the application.
You can manage camera permission through your device settings.
12. Communications
We or our service providers may send communications concerning:
account creation and authentication;
password resets;
customer support;

You must be at least 16 years old to create or use a Clearplate account.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will take reasonable steps to delete the information and close the account.
